Dur Hot Springs Trek
The Dur Hot Springs Trek is one of the most scenic and culturally rich trekking routes in Bhutan. The trail leads to natural hot springs deep inside the forests and mountains of Bumthang District.
Many Bhutanese visit the hot springs for relaxation and traditional healing, believing the mineral-rich waters help cure body aches, joint pain, and skin problems.
Detailed Itinerary
Bumthang to Dur (2,730m)
Drive from Jakar and begin the trek along the Dur Chhu river through beautiful blue pine and spruce forests.
Dur to Gyamshing (3,450m)
Continue the climb through pristine forests where sightings of rare Himalayan birds are common.
Gyamshing to Tsochenchen (3,850m)
Steep ascent through spruce and birch forests towards the higher alpine grazing lands at Tsochenchen.
Tsochenchen to Dur Tsachu (3,590m)
Cross the Juli La pass (4,700m) with incredible views of the Lunana peaks before descending to the hot springs.
Dur Tsachu Halt
A day to relax and soak in the seven medicinal hot springs, known for their therapeutic properties for various ailments.
Dur Tsachu (Optional Exploration)
Take a day hike to nearby glacial lakes or simply spend another relaxing day at the hot springs.
Dur Tsachu to Tsochenchen
Begin the return journey, retracing the path across the Juli La pass. Night at Tsochenchen campsite.
Tsochenchen to Gyamshing
A long descent through the alpine meadows and back into the lush forests of the Dur valley.
Gyamshing to Bumthang
The final walk out of the valley to the road point and drive back to the cultural heart of Jakar.
